Some of my earliest and happiest memories revolve around food. Growing up, my parents loved to cook, and meals in our house were never just about eating, they were a way of trying new things and connecting to my mum's culture on the other side of the world.
Watching them in the kitchen taught me that cooking is one of the most genuine ways to show people you care.
But somewhere along the way, modern life turned cooking into a chore. Ready meals, meal replacements, and delivery apps have convinced people that cooking is something to avoid, not embrace.
I get it, life is overwhelming and some days we do just need something to have whilst bingeing TV. But we've been sold the idea that food is either a mathematical challenge (hitting macros, counting calories) or a luxury reserved for people with time to spare or natural talent in the kitchen.
I reject that entirely.
Cooking is a fundamental life skill, not an optional hobby for the gifted few. The problem isn't that people can't cook, it's that the way we teach cooking makes it feel unattainable. Traditional methods don't meet people where they are. They assume knowledge, time, and confidence that most people simply don't have.
That's why I'm building Hook. I'm leaving behind a steady job because I believe food education needs to change. Learning to cook should feel approachable, even fun. It should adapt to your life, not demand you reshape your life around it. Most importantly, it should remind people that food can bring joy back into their daily routine.
Cooking shouldn't feel like fighting against your body or ticking boxes on a nutrition app. It should feel like creating something meaningful. Hook is designed to make that possible, to help people rediscover that food is one of life's great pleasures, not another source of stress.
